How will the DJ select music for a corporate event, party or picnic?
Unless you’re planning on a theme (50s, 70s, tropical/beach, movie, holiday, etc.), company events cater to a WIDE variety of people that come from a wide background. If family is included, then the music needs to cater to adults and little ones. After all, at most company events where there are families, isn’t it the little ones that do most of the dancing?
All of the music should be radio edit (goes without saying), and be from all genres and decades. And unless there’s a dinner involved, slow songs should be avoided. Music is atmosphere, and what we’re trying to build is energy. By keeping the tempo upbeat and fun, your employees, spouses, and families will stay upbeat and fun.
In the early part of an event, the music should be upbeat – not jump out of your chair/hair on fire – but light, bouncy, recognizable, and fun. As the event progresses and it’s time to dance, make the song selections danceable while incorporating a variety of genres (Motown, Disco, Pop, Rock, Country, New Hits, etc.) and make it fun for all. THIS is where a seasoned professional DJ does their best work.
